The Third Reich (Nazi Germany) was Germany's darkest chapter of history and the concentration camps were erected at that time to hold, torture and kill political opponents and unwanted members of society e.g. homosexuals and Jews. We are going to visit the Dachau concentration camp, which was located north of Munich and is now a memorial. We will have a guided tour for about 2.5 hours in English. After that you will also have some more time to spend at the memorial site. As our President Joachim Gauck said recently, there is no Germany identity without Auschwitz (and other concentration camps) and it is very important to remember this time of our past. I hope that this event might be of interest to you as you get to know a place where these wrongdoings took place. It is one of the places you shouldn't miss out while you are in Germany, as sad and depressing as it might be.
