Earning Money
As a guest student, you are obviously entitled to take on part-time jobs to improve your financial situation. But you should definitely not view this as an option to finance your entire studies! That would considerably lower your chances of successfully completing your course of study.
Earning a little extra money, however, is of course perfectly all right. But there are a few rules concerning jobs which you should be aware of:
Special regulations apply to international students from non-EU countries. Make sure to comply with them so as not to run the risk of losing your residency permit.
The following is important for all students:
If you don’t work more than 20 hours a week (during the semester), you won't have to pay health insurance, unemployment insurance and nursing insurance from your wages, so that you'll receive more money from your gross income.
But be careful:
Should you work more than 20 hours a week, it's the health insurance that decides!
During the semester break (lecture-free period) you're permitted to work more than 20 hours a week and still won't have to pay for these insurances.
