Earning money

As a guest student, you are obviously entitled to take on part-time jobs to improve your financial situation. But you should definitely not view this as an option to finance your entire studies! That would considerably lower your chances of successfully completing your course of study.
Earning a little extra money is, of course, perfectly all right. However, there are a few rules concerning jobs which you should be aware of:

Special regulations apply to international students (from non-EU countries). You urgently have to comply with these so as not to run the risk of losing your residency permit.

The following is important for all students:

If you don’t work more than 20 hours per week (during the semester), you don't have to pay for health insurance, unemployment insurance and nursing insurance from your wages. So that you'll receive more money from your gross income.

But be careful:
Should you work more than 20 hours per week, it's the health insurance who decides whether to pay or not to pay these other insurances!

During the semester break (when there are no lectures) you are permitted to work more than 20 hours per week and still won't have to pay for these insurances.
