Living in a Hall of Residence
For many students, the main part of their student lives takes place in their hall of residence. As many different nationalities live here together, minor communication problems or (intercultural) conflicts may occur from time to time.
How a hall of residence is structured, can make a great difference – depending on whether you live in a single room in a shared flat, an apartment with a shared kitchen or a studio apartment, you'll have more or less contact to your fellow residents.
- This short youtube video (in German), provided by the Studierendenwerk Chemnitz, shows the differences between the various types of accommodation.

Many halls of residence of the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern also have resident tutors. Newly arrived students can turn to the tutors if they have any questions. Tutors also plan, organise and carry out activities such as get-togethers for new residents, table tennis tournaments, Sunday breakfasts, bar evenings, various trips or cooking together... The tutors’ contact details as well as information on planned activities can be found hung up in the various halls – participate and get to know your new fellow residents!
