Having Arrived in Munich
Welcome to Munich!
In order to be able to move into an apartment in Munich once your studies begin, you should ideally start looking for accommodation before you get to Munich. If you’re already in Munich, there are several options when looking for accommodation.
Found an apartment? Don’t forget to register!
Every resident in Germany is required to register with the authorities if their stay will last longer than three months. As soon as you have found a room or apartment, you have to register with the Residents’ Registration Office (“Einwohnermeldeamt”) in charge:
You'll require the following documents in order to register:
- your passport/ID
- a tenancy agreement or rather confirmation from your landlord that you've moved in ("Wohnungsgeberbestätigung")
- your visa (if required; EU citizens do not need a visa)
- your residence permit
Please always remember to hand on your new address, for instance to your university or health insurance company. In most cases, that can be done online.
Do you require consular assistance?
Here you'll find a list of consulates, consulate generals and honorary consulates located in Munich.
If your country is not represented in Munich, have a look at the website of the Federal Foreign Office for all missions in Germany.
