Cultureclubbing goes Lenbachhaus & Import Export

As part of cultureclubbing and in cooperation with the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern, the Lenbachhaus is going to present an exhibition of works by artist Etel Adnan, whose works are characterised by an intensive exchange between the Arab and Western Worlds and combine entirely different art forms, media, languages and cultures.

Followed by a party in the Import Export – and, as always with cultureclubbing, free for students!

Etel Adnan (1925-2021), born in Beirut, is an important representative of modern art. Her art and literature is characterised by a profound and intensive exchange between the Arab and Western Worlds. She was a poet, journalist, painter and philosopher, who spent her life between the Lebanon, France and California and whose work combines entirely different art forms, media, languages and cultures. After the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962), Adnan refused to continue to work using the French language and showed her solidarity with Algeria: She declared that she no longer needed to write in French but wanted to paint in Arabic. Her political clarity as well as her close connection to writing and painting became significant characteristics of her oeuvre.
