cultureclubbing goes Lenbachhaus & Bahnwärter Thiel
As part of cultureclubbing and in cooperation with the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern, the Lenbachhaus will be presenting the art exhibition Aber hier leben? Nein danke. Surrealismus + Antifaschismus (But live here? No thanks: Surrealism and Anti-fascism), with works by more than 60 different international artists.
The Kunstbau am Lenbachhaus will be opening its doors exclusively for students for one evening.
But live here? No thanks: Surrealism and Anti-fascism
Surrealists declared reality to be insufficient. Their ambition was to radically alter society and re-imagine life. They organized politically and at the same time refused to end up in the "pathetic" imaginary world of daily politics.
Within their artistic work, the surrealists insisted on an absolute freedom that was to infect the rest of society. The surrealists' understanding stood at odds with Fascist freedom: the freedom to command and obey. For the surrealists, emancipation meant a way of life whose rhythm was not that of wage labor and whose goals were larger than the glorious Nation and bottomless Profit. They bemoaned the stunted imagination of a society for which art and poetry had become eccentric activities.
The exhibition at the Lenbachhaus is conceived as a bundling of attempts to revise a still narrowly defined and politically trivialized Surrealist canon and to find new answers to the question, "What is Surrealism?"
Afterwards, we'll all head to the Bahnwärter Thiel for the party "cultureclubbing Open Tracks" – with 100 free drinks for the first 100 students and free admission until midnight!
