FAQ Student Coaching
Our Coaching is available to all students who are enrolled at one of the universities the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern is in charge of. Students from Rosenheim, Freising-Weihenstephan or Benediktbeuern are thus also very welcome to contact us. However, please note the exceptions for Straubing, Triesdorf and Heilbronn Campus.
Basically, any student who thinks that our coaching service might help them is welcome to contact us, for example, if your studies don’t seem to be progressing the way you'd hoped or if you even fear you won’t be able to graduate successfully.
Our coaching service is free of charge for all students enrolled at one of these universities and who have paid the Studierendenwerk fee.
At the initial interview we'll discuss your current situation as a student, the difficulties you're experiencing as well as possible causes. Together we'll decide whether or not our Coaching suits your situation.
Together we'll work on finding an individual way to solve your study-related problems with established methods. You and we together will reflect on your resources; often, potential can be discovered that is unused or even unknown of and which can be put to use so that in future you'll be able to overcome difficulties.
If you're unsure whether or not you're currently dealing with issues other than your study-related problems, you can always get support and an opinion on your situation from our colleagues at the Psychosocial and Psychotherapeutic Counselling Service beforehand (or also at a later stage).
If necessary, we would also refer you to other services provided by our Advice and Counselling Network to find answers to more specific questions.
After having registered, you'll probably have to wait for two to three weeks for an initial interview. Follow-up appointments can then be made at short notice.
If you cannot or do not want to wait that long for an appointment in student coaching, we'd recommend that you remain active now and check with the central student advisory service at your university, with the academic advisors of your chair/faculty or with your course coordinators to enquire about similar services being offered.
If you're studying at the Technical University of Munich, have a look at the services provided by their Academic Coaching and ProLehre teams:

In general, the coaching process comprises 5 or 6 appointments. A maximum of 10 appointments can be arranged.
The coaching can only take place after having arranged an appointment. How much time lies between the appointments depends on your individual situation.
